President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has signed the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers (RA No. 12021), a landmark law aimed at protecting the rights and welfare of Filipino maritime workers. The new law establishes a comprehensive framework to ensure fair wages, benefits, and improved education and training for seafarers, aligning local standards with global maritime regulations. It also addresses workplace discrimination, particularly for women sailors, and strengthens the country’s position as the world’s top supplier of seafarers.
